Disposition:
✘ RELENTLESS: At age 12, Mulder witnessed his sister's abduction by aliens from their home. Decades later, figuring out what happened to her - and getting to the bottom of untold numbers of other unexplained phenomena - is his life's work. Mulder's fixated on the nature of truth and uncovering what there is to uncover about strange occurrences. His dogged persistence makes him an excellent investigator, but the man doesn't really know when to stop. He perseveres in the fact of obstacles, from KEEP OUT signs to a global cabal bent on covering up state secrets.
✘ RECKLESS: More than anything, Mulder cares about the truth - far more than he cares about following the rules or keeping himself safe. If doing something dangerous will solve a case, then he'll do it. If it feels like staying awake for days at a time will help him get his missing partner back, then he's done sleeping. Left to his own devices, Mulder will put his ass on the line without a second thought. He'll run his mouth without concern for the consequences - whether that means trying to speak eloquent truth to power or taunting suspects with threats of misery in prison.
✘ EMPATHETIC: Mulder's ability to think things through from others' perspectives is vital to his work in the FBI. He's particularly quick to build rapport with witnesses and get the information he and Scully need to solve cases. But that same sense of empathy is why he's no longer a profiler - for him, getting into the heads of criminals was easier than getting out of them again. Even in his current work, his sense of empathy can cloud his judgment, leading him to go easy on suspects who might remind him of himself or his missing sister. Empathy is a double-edged sword for him, the thing that makes him great at working with vulnerable people and terrible at putting his work away at the end of the day.
✘ ALIENATED (ha): Human connection is the defining feature of Mulder's life: having it, losing it, longing for it. His overriding interests and career path began with the loss of his sister, and they ultimately led him to a basement office so removed from the rest of the Bureau that he can watch porn down there without anybody noticing. He's a lonely man, someone with few connections outside the world of conspiracy.
It's easy to dismiss his lack of friendships and sardonic jokes as a desire to avoid social entanglements, but he generally tends to be friendly until other people fail to be friendly back. Frequently, the shift comes when his interests come into play. For a man who's desperate to be believed, to find people who will validate the often-traumatic experiences he's had, the implication that his theories are laughable is a low blow. That's much of what makes his partner, Scully, so important to him: while she frequently finds fault with his belief in the paranormal, she approaches questions with scientific rigor and gives Mulder's theories the same consideration she would anyone else's.
✘ COMPETENT: With everything else in mind, it's easy to dismiss Mulder as a complete disaster. People at the Bureau call him "Spooky Mulder," and it's not a compliment - he's known for being a little bit of a crackpot whose interest in aliens looks comical to a lot of agents. But it's worth noting that as a general rule, Mulder's good at his job. He can and does close cases, albeit often with conclusions that aren't always popular, and his profiles catch killers. That he could start investigating X-files at all is a testament to the fact that he's impressed people throughout his career: at Quantico, in the Investigative Support Unit, and then with the FBI's Violent Crimes section.
He's also capable of keeping fish alive, which is harder than it looks.
Suitability:
Noctium is an alien planet with a native population of sentient beings. Fox Mulder is an FBI agent who's dedicated his life to investigating paranormal phenomena and especially extraterrestrial life. Plucking him out of 1990s Washington, D.C., and dropping him into a multiverse situation with real live aliens is kind of like doing him a favour, when you think about it.
His inclination will be to dig into everything: the world and its culture, his fellow gembonded, whatever mysteries might come his way. How he feels about his own experiences in Noctium will depend on a lot on how they go in game - but overall? He's going to be fascinated.
Condition upon arrival:
Hungry, disoriented, in pain, generally traumatized. He'll be coming directly from a Siberian gulag where secret alien experimentation happens, having just been medically tortured with a substance prisoners call "the black cancer." The black cancer is an alien substance that's sort of like oil and sort of like worms. Mulder's basically waterboarded with it.
Abilities:
With a degree in psychology from Oxford and a background in criminal profiling, Fox Mulder tends to have a good read on people. He's well-educated in general and conversant on a wide variety of subjects - especially as regards people and their many foibles. Other interests of his include myths, legends, and the New York Knicks.
Beyond that, he's a reasonably good shot and familiar with investigation, interrogation, and all the red tape that comes with solving cases. He's in excellent condition physically and is quick on his feet (capable of outrunning horses!).
Inventory:
A five o'clock shadow and a pair of underpants in need of a wash.
Gembond: Ruby
Gem Location: The nape of his neck, exactly where he'd have been chipped if he'd been abducted, per show mythos.
