HISTORY

HIS SISTER DISAPPEARS

When Mulder was 12 years old, his sister was abducted while they were alone in the house. Her loss is the single most important thing that's ever happened to him; not only did her absence shatter his family, the fact that everyone else stopped looking for her had a profound effect on him. By the time he hit 13, Samantha was a subject his family avoided, but Mulder still desperately wanted to find her..and he still does. Searching for her has defined his life, work, and passions for criminology, psychology, and the unexplained.

HE FINDS THE X-FILES

As a young agent, Mulder was considered one of the best profilers in the FBI - but he wasn't any closer to finding Samantha, and hunting down serial killers took a toll on his psyche. His tendency toward obsession mixed badly with spending his time getting into the heads of violent serial killers. Finding a cache of unexplained cases consumed his spare time and - with the help of his then-girlfriend - eventually became the bulk of his work. He saw the X-Files as another way to get to Samantha, especially after regression therapy led him to the possibility that aliens took her.

HE GETS A NEW PARTNER

After his girlfriend left him for counter-terrorism work in a newly unified Berlin, Mulder continued to explore the X-Files in the basement of the Hoover Building. More powerful men, wanting him to go back to his prior work, assigned Dana Scully to disprove his conclusions. While Mulder regarded her as a spy at first, he quickly came to rely on her, both for her insight and for her friendship. Over the next several years, they became close, uncovering new truths about the paranormal and the complexities of Earth's history of extraterrestrial visitation.

HE CLOSES A LOT OF CASES

Mulder experiences a truly absurd number of difficult situations over the course of the show, enough that it's difficult to decide which events bear the most mention. Among other things, he loses memories after he sneaking onto a military base, gets attacked repeatedly by cryptids and criminals, crawls through bile under a shopping mall's escalator, gets shot several times, is exposed to dangerous viruses, is tormented by clones of his sister, is kidnapped to Russia and experimented on, shoots ketamine into his brain in hopes of unlocking repressed memories, and goes on Jerry Springer. It's tough to choose just one experience to highlight.

His ultimate form is that of a six-foot-tall red fox with teeth and claws that are just a little too long. He's capable of walking upright, wearing clothes, and keeping a nearly human bearing. His voice is deeper and has a different timbre than Mulder's, and he's coy about his name, making him not quite recognizable at first.

POWER_LIST

COMPULSION VIA VOICE | He's capable of compulsion through his voice, bewitching others into following his orders and meeting his demands. It's a skill he's able to turn on and off as needed.
STRONG JAWS | Fully transformed, his bite is powerful enough to break bones...but he's also capable of control and delicacy. He can pick someone up by the scruff of their neck, leaving only surface damage, or he can snap their spine.

He retains his confidence and eloquence in this form, but he lacks a sense of right or wrong and feels no empathy for others. Everything about him exists on a surface level; there's no depth of curiosity, and all his interests are subsumed by the desire to steal lovers away from the village.
